This is one of the electronic works I have composed in the 1990's for stereo playback, or if desired, through a multi-channel speaker system. Some of these works these works, such as U-Bahn, were composed and edited on magnetic tape, with the sounds mainly generated on an original Yamaha DX7. The sounds were then heavily processed, the desire was to get a grittier, more punk/experimental techno sound. This work is described as being for magnetic tape so that it is linked to the electronic music tradition; and also the experimental electronic producers during the 1970's and 1980's, who used Revox tape recorders. Another reason is because I have always preferred the sound of analogue two-track tape to either DAT, or the early CD players. Now however analogue tape recorders are rare and digital playback is very good, so now either medium is fine. |
