Dash - Jennifer Higdon

Much twentieth century classical music was folk music influenced and this music had evolved into electric and psychedelic folk styles around the time I started studying composition. Because musicians have told me my compositions often sound Celtic, I decided in this work to be even more open to the folk music and folk instruments that I love, integrating these styles - drones, simple chords and melodic forms - into the music I write.

"Finally, Astral Hurdy-Gurdy for soprano saxophone, violin and piano. An astonishingly mysterious composition. Listening to these three outstanding musicians, one could only admire and long to listen to them more. There was a joy in this music making."
