Ian Stewart (composer) playing synthesizers Ian Stewart is a composer and musician whose works have been performed by Kyle Horch, Andreas van Zoelen, Naomi Sullivan, Guilliem Calvo, Pavel Timofeyevsky, John Harle with the Brodski and Smith Quartets, Flotilla, Hard Edge Group, Cocora, Jason Laczkoski and Stephen Page, Royal College of Music, Birmingham Conservatoire of Music, and Northwestern University Saxophone Ensembles.

His works have been broadcast on Catalunya Música and BBC Radio 3. Many of these works are influenced by contemporary chamber music, psychedelic and folk music, new-wave rock and Expressionism, often featuring long, melodic themes

While in his teens he was one of the few students to have attended composition classes with Franz Reizenstein, a pupil of Paul Hindemith, then going on to study composition with Thomas Rajna. For two consecutive years he attended Paul Patterson's contemporary music summer school, learning electronic composition, live electronics and to using an early VCS3 synthesizer.
